One day, Cheeku was lying in his swing on a beach in Goa, reading a book about thrilling sea voyages. The book also contained a description of Vasco da Gama's journey from Portugal to Calicut, discovering a new sea route to India.
Cheeku got so excited after reading about this journey that he decided to replicate Vasco da Gama's voyage. His friend Blacky bear was lying on the beach wearing big goggles and enjoying a sunbath.
"Hey, Blacky, I've decided to make a ship and follow Vasco da Gama's journey from Portugal to India," said Cheeku.
Blacky was shocked.
"Cheeku, do you have any idea how dangerous the journey will be?"
"Oh, Blacky, I am a risk-taker! This journey will be so much fun!" Cheeku said, laughing.
Then Cheeku insisted that Blacky come along.
"Cheeku, I don't have enough money to travel and stay with you for the whole year. You go alone," said Blacky, not wanting to go on a trip that seemed like a terrible idea.
"Oh Blacky, I will take care of all expenses. You just come along and have fun," Cheeku said.
A few days later, Cheeku and Blacky flew from Mumbai to Lisbon.
Cheeku began preparations for his journey and took permission from the Portuguese government. The government promised Cheeku assistance in every possible way.
Cheeku prepared four ships similar to those that were used by Vasco da Gama and hired 170 sailors. He practised sailing extensively and learnt the techniques of navigating ships.
Like Vasco da Gama, Cheeku started his voyage on July 8, 2023. Despite all his preparations, Cheeku lacked the experience and courage of Vasco da Gama. He was interested in having fun on the ships and indulging in eating, dancing, and singing.
